A sunny wedding in Robertson
When you picture a Cape Winelands wedding day, images of sunny vineyards and craggy mountains fill your mind. Romantic and beautiful, reminiscent of the European countrysides prevalent in 2000's rom-coms. Robertson delivers on all these fantasies! Nestled in between mountains, the town itself is charming, surrounded by wine farms and Cape Dutch architecture. Duvon Wine Estate, just 10 minutes outside of Robertson encapsulates much of the Winelands' magic. Their and romantic architecture highlights the scenery and their ceremony space overlooking the vineyards provides the perfect backdrop for a dreamy wedding ceremony.
Stephan and Sharika’s wedding-day story
After 8 years together, Stephan and Sharika's excitement for their big day was clearly visible. Both originally from the Western Cape, the two met while studying in Potchefstroom. We met them in person when we did their absolutely beautiful engagement shoot at Betty's Bay last December (see that here: Betty's Bay Engagement Shoot, and we were struck by their playfulness with each other and their warmth and friendliness. That atmosphere carried through on their wedding day, where their friends gathered to celebrate with them enthusiastically, coming from all over the country to witness their love story.
Getting married at Duvon Wine Estate
Duvon Wine Estate is located in the Western Cape Winelands, just outside of Robertson. With the lovely venue surrounded by vineyards, and the open-air chapel overlooking the view, it feels romantic, dreamy and much more isolated than it actually is. Its close proximity to the town makes it ideal for guests that are sleeping over, whether from Cape Town or the broader South Africa. The romantic architecture of the buildings perfectly compliments the scenery and way that the locations are all close together makes the wedding day logistics a breeze. Photo opportunities are plenty around Duvon, with the vineyards, lawn, patio, and chapel within a few steps.
Warm tones and wedding details
The couple's chosen colour palette of warm oranges and browns complemented the blue skies and green vineyards and perfectly suited the warm and sunny day. The peach, orange and red flowers set against pampas grass, gold candlesticks white candles and drapery had an almost vintage effect. The bridesmaids wore rich brown satin dresses that reflected the sun, and the groom and groomsmen wore beige suits, cool in the heat and the perfect match to the bridesmaids. The wedding was filled with personal details, braai salt wedding favours, piñatas, engagement photos and thoughtful signage. It really felt like Stephan and Sharika's wedding day. The intention, consideration and planning was all clear.
Portraits among the vineyards
The vineyards at Duvon make for a specular photo backdrop, and just like their engagement session, Stephan and Sharika were relaxed and comfortable as we explored the scenery for their couple session. Despite the heat and bright sun, they laughed and enjoyed the moments, complimenting each other on their outfits, laughing about their sweatiness (it was HOT) and having fun together. Using gentle prompting and then letting the moment unfold, we got a mixture of beautiful portraits and natural moments. As a Robertson wedding photographer and videographer, this is exactly what we aim for.
Stephan and Sharika’s Duvon wedding
All in all, Stephan and Sharika's Cape Winelands wedding was one to remember. It had so many aspects of what we love about weddings, and the culmination of all the planning that goes into a wedding day was truly worth it for these two. We had so much fun with them, and despite the heat, the day was simply magical.
