We never get tired of shooting South Africa's beautiful landscape and this engagement session at Modderfontein had it all—rain, sunshine, laughter, and a whole lot of love.
On the drive there, the very first rain of spring appeared and we started to think "oh no"- but by the time we arrived and walked to our photo spot with Tasneem and Dylan, the clouds started to part, and the most gorgeous pink and orange sunset painted the sky, turning the dry grass golden.
If you’ve ever been to Modderfontein Nature Reserve in Gauteng, you’ll know why it’s such a gem for photography. Wide open fields, winding paths, and that soft bushveld charm—it’s one of our new favourite places as a Gauteng photographer/videographer because every corner gives you something unique. (It's also only R35 per person for entry). And when the light hits just right (like it did for us that evening), it feels like you’re in your own little movie scene.
The couple? Absolutely a dream. Tasneem and Dylan are bubbly, goofy, and oh-so-in-love, the kind of people who make you feel instantly comfortable and like you’ve been friends forever. They love the outdoors, and you could see how natural they felt in this space, just running around, laughing, and enjoying the moment. Their energy was infectious, and capturing their connection felt effortless. Every time they looked at each other, you could see the excitement of not just the session, but the fact that they’re getting married next year at Cradle Valley in August. (We already can’t wait for that wedding day—it’s going to be incredible!).
What I love most about engagement shoots like this is how they give couples the chance to slow down, breathe, and just be together in the middle of all the wedding planning. It’s not about stiff poses, it’s about laughter, whispered jokes, and those little looks that say “I choose you.”
As a Gauteng wedding photographer and videographer, sessions like these remind us why we love what we do. We get to tell love stories in spaces that are as beautiful and authentic as the people in front of our lenses. And Modderfontein gave us the perfect stage for theirs.
If you’re dreaming about your own engagement session, whether at Modderfontein or somewhere that feels special to you, my advice is to embrace the unexpected, the rain, the sun, the goofy moments - because that’s where the magic happens.
