Hey there! We’ve got a super fun and special engagement session to share with you today, one that’s close to my heart! Picture this: a sweltering sunny day in Pretoria, a quirky coffee shop full of charm, and a couple so in love they couldn’t stop smiling. Oh, and did I mention the bride-to-be is my sister? That’s right, this shoot was extra special for myself and Emile. Setting the Scene: Haloa Coffee in Groenkloof
Haloa Coffee is the place to be if you're looking for a spot with character, quirky charm, and, of course, incredible coffee. Located in Groenkloof, Pretoria, (as well as on the Groenkloof and Hatfield campuses of the University of Pretoria) this little gem features a fun, mid-century modern interior (my fave), with a wall of books that made for the perfect backdrop. If you’re a lover of cozy vibes, unique spaces and excellent coffee, Haloa Coffee is definitely a place you want to check out. The mint green scooter? Don’t even get me started, it's the star of the show. If you’re planning a coffee shop engagement shoot, this spot is pure magic.
The day itself was a tad on the sweltering side (hello, sunny Pretoria!), but inside Haloa, it was all cool vibes and good energy. We started the session with the couple sipping on coffee, enjoying the relaxed atmosphere, and letting the camera catch all their natural, candid moments. The result? Creative juices flowing!
The Couple: Love, Laughter, and.. a Family Bond?
Okay, so full disclosure: the bride-to-be is my sister, making this session was even more personal for me than most. It’s such a special feeling to photograph someone you love, and there’s something extra magical about capturing the love between two people who are so clearly meant to be together. My sister and her fiancé were absolutely adorable—full of laughter, inside jokes, and that easygoing vibe that made the whole shoot feel like a fun hangout session rather than “work.”
We spent the first part of the shoot inside Haloa, making the most of the cozy setting (and air conditioning!). I loved how they embraced the space, from the mid-century furniture to the coffee and colourful chairs. It’s moments like these that make photography so incredibly rewarding. The realness, the laughter (lots of laughter!) and the *vibes* all came together beautifully.
Unique Features of the Day: Coffee Shop Vibes & Park Adventures
One of the coolest things about this engagement session was how we were able to combine the quirky coffee shop setting with a more natural, outdoor vibe. After we wrapped up inside, we headed to a nearby park for a change of scenery. The park gave us a chance to capture some of those quiet, intimate moments, while still keeping the energy high and playful. The contrast of the cozy coffee shop with the greenery of the park was the perfect balance for this engagement shoot!
The whole session had an effortless feel, which we absolutely loved. These two are full of jokes and so comfortable together.
