There’s something about a Monday wedding that feels extra magical maybe it’s the surprise of it, or the way it slows down time (and the way you wake up very confused on Tuesday!). And that’s exactly what happened at Abi and Schalk's unforgettable wedding at Imperfect Perfection in Pretoria.
From the moment we arrived for the morning preparations, we knew it was going to be a day to remember. With nearly a week of rain leading up to the big day, the odds weren’t looking great for an outdoor ceremony. But in answer to the couple, coordinator and our prayers, the clouds parted that morning and the sun came out just in time to give us the most glorious golden light for photos!
The Team
The incredible team behind the day deserves a huge shoutout: the ever-amazing Lené from Imperfect Perfection, who kept everything running smoothly, kept everyone fed and solved problems before they even happened! The talented Della Donna Beauty team who made sure the bride looked radiant with flawless hair and makeup; the beautiful, bold blooms by Alsmeer Flowers in Pretoria; and of course, DJ Ruan from Magic Melodies, who kept the dance floor buzzing all night long. Massive thanks to the team at Imperfect Perfection who handled the catering and created a space that felt both cozy and dreamy.
The Venue
Imperfect Perfection is one of those Pretoria wedding venues that just lives up to its name in the best way. The outdoor ceremony space set in a rustic setting among trees and birdsong feels like a tucked-away secret forest. The reception area was decked out in bold, warm hues: reds, oranges, and yellows, with flickering candles and twinkling fairy lights. It was like walking into a romantic autumn evening, even though it wasn’t technically autumn!
Personal Touches
A few fun personal touches made the day even more special: the bride rocked the most incredible yellow shoes, they had a Funko Pop cake topper with a special story- Schalk sells Funko Pops and they met when Abi ordered from him! After a sweet ceremony where they exchanged personal vows, we headed out during golden hour for portraits in the field—complete with some gorgeous Nguni cattle. It doesn’t get more authentically South African than that!
One detail we absolutely loved? Instead of traditional table numbers, the couple named their tables after places that held special meaning to them. It was such a beautiful way to invite guests into their love story. Plus, getting married on a Monday helped them save a little on the budget (brides-to-be, take note!).
Your Turn!
If you’re planning your own wedding at Imperfect Perfection (or anywhere around Pretoria) and want your photographer to be as excited about your big day as you are, let’s chat! We love capturing the real, in-between moments. The laughter, the tears, the spontaneous dance moves—and helping couples feel totally themselves in front of the camera.
And for those curious about the stunning outfits: the groom’s suit was from OS Man Tailor in Brooklyn, the bride’s dreamy gown was custom made by Mimie Bridal Atelier, and the rings were beautifully crafted by Poggenpoel.
Scroll down to see some of the magic we captured. If you’re dreaming of your own Imperfect Perfection wedding—or any South African wedding with a bit of whimsy and heart—don’t hesitate to reach out. We’d love to be part of your story.
